Sad:Cafe, Rundle Street East, Adelaide

sad cafe, ebenezer place
Shopfront, Coorong Angus pastrami: tomato chutney, cucumber, Paris Creek cheddar, pastrami and baby spinach toasted on organic sourdough; $9.00, chocolate brownie

Cute little ‘hipster’ cafe on Ebenezer Place parallel to Rundle Street serving simple food at affordable prices, most (or all) items under a tenner! Score!

Bruschetta: cherry tomatoes, Paris Creek gouda and basil dressed with olive oil on toasted pumpkin bread; $9.00

Looks pretty damn delicious aye?

Dukkah and salmon salad: cos lettuce, avocado, Shiraz sauce and Harris smoked salmon topped with Kurianda dukkah; $9.00

This was delightful! So much flavour from the smoked salmon and loads of crunch from the lettuce leaves and heap of aromatic dukkah. They weren’t scrimp on the avocado (I swear it was almost a whole one!) which added a touch of creaminess and my daily dosage of vitamin C ;) along with the Shiraz sauce which combined all the individual components together. Delicious and healthy!

House of Donkey, Adelaide

house of donkey, sturt street

Can you say that you’ve been to the quirky town house turned vegetarian eatery called the House of Donkey? Or what my immature self likes to call it, House of Ass… hehe! :P Just a few streets back from Chinatown off Whitmore Square on Sturt Street, houses this joint. House of Donkey is owned by three ladies who also happen to live upstairs; the ground floor is decorated with random old school nicknacks, furniture, flowers and hanging pot plants with the odd ass/donkey here and there. There’s one painted on the wall and there’s a few hidden around in the cute courtyard out the back. Keep your eyes peeled!

Roasted sweet potato and lentil salad with spinach, sultanas and pine nuts; $10.00

Presentation wise, not the prettiest thing. BUT! – there is a but; but, it was so flavourful. The sweet potato was exactly that, super super sweet and the dressing was so good – a bit of tartness to compliment the sweetness with loads of flavour and a variety of textures from the pine nuts, spinach and lentils. Loved the little gems of sultanas with each bite here and there.
