Can you say that you’ve been to the quirky town house turned vegetarian eatery called the House of Donkey? Or what my immature self likes to call it, House of Ass… hehe!
Just a few streets back from Chinatown off Whitmore Square on Sturt Street, houses this joint. House of Donkey is owned by three ladies who also happen to live upstairs; the ground floor is decorated with random old school nicknacks, furniture, flowers and hanging pot plants with the odd ass/donkey here and there. There’s one painted on the wall and there’s a few hidden around in the cute courtyard out the back. Keep your eyes peeled!

Soy latte and cappucino; $4.00 and $3.50

Eeyore playing hide and seek!

Eggplant, feta and sun dried tomato pie with salad; $12.00

Roasted sweet potato and lentil salad with spinach, sultanas and pine nuts; $10.00
Presentation wise, not the prettiest thing. BUT! – there is a but; but, it was so flavourful. The sweet potato was exactly that, super super sweet and the dressing was so good – a bit of tartness to compliment the sweetness with loads of flavour and a variety of textures from the pine nuts, spinach and lentils. Loved the little gems of sultanas with each bite here and there.

I haven’t heard of this one before D. You learn something new every day! Glad you enjoyed it, you’ve had a few ordinary dinners out lately judging by your reviews.
I sure have. You win some and you lose some but gotta keep trying to find some hidden gems out there.
