A rare find in the city; a little chic sustainable cafe on Whitmore Square just a block behind the hustle and bustle of Chinatown sits Cafe Troppo.

The cafe is rather small and tight with high stools and tables along side the window; my flexibility got put to the test when I had to squeeze my way onto a stool squished between a table and another patron! Once we put our orders through, we were on high alert hoping to snag a free table either inside or outside the cafe – either way, it’d be much more comfortable with more space and room to eat. We got lucky and spied a couple leaving their table outside so we quickly hopped off the high bar stools and got comfortable whilst soaking in the sunlight.

Skinny latte; $3.80

Poached eggs with asparagus and spinach
A rather small serving came out, but surprisingly really flavourful and the plate itself was very vibrant. Too bad the poached eggs were a little overdone.

Waffles with strawberries and ice cream
Who says you can’t kick off a day with something sweet? The ice cream on the waffles were melting in the sun at a rapid rate so it was a race against time to hoover that down before the waffles absorbed all the ice cream which resulted in a soggy mess. That aside, a really satisfying start to the day!
